orient

Gives a one-call overview of the whole database.

Works in read modeTool sets: query · meta · full

You might ask

“What's in this database?”

Your assistant may call orient to answer.

How it works

  • Reads the schema index, not the live catalog, so it is fast and costs no queries.
  • Returns tables and views with their columns, primary key and row estimate, the foreign-key joins between them, and enum values.
  • Past 40 tables it lists the rest by name only, to keep the answer small. Pass focus (e.g. orders) to zoom in.

Parameters

focusstring
Substring to filter tables/joins by ref (e.g. "orders"). Omit to summarize the whole indexed schema.

What your assistant reads

The description nexql-mcp sends with the tool. It's how the assistant decides when to use it.

Compact overview of the whole database: tables and views with columns, primary key and row estimate, foreign-key joins, and enum values. Use it for broad questions ("what's in this database?"); for a specific question, search_schema is cheaper.
