Claude Desktop · one download

Ask your Postgres database questions in Claude Desktop

One file, no terminal. NexQL is read-only unless you switch writes on, and it masks columns that look like personal data or secrets before results reach Claude.

Not your computer? Pick another download below.

  1. Open the file

Double-click the downloaded .mcpb file. Claude Desktop shows an install dialog. If it doesn't, open Claude Desktop's Settings → Extensions and drop the file there.

  2. Paste your database URL

It looks like postgres://user:password@host:5432/dbname. Leave Allow changes to data off unless you want Claude to edit rows. To limit what Claude can see, list schemas such as public, sales.

  3. Ask a question

Start with “What tables are in my database?” to check the connection, then ask what you actually want to know: “How much revenue did we make each month this year?”

What leaves your computer

NexQL runs on your machine and connects to your database directly. The tables it describes and the rows it returns become part of your conversation, so Claude's provider sees them like anything else you type. Masked columns are replaced with <redacted> before that happens. For least privilege, connect as a role that can only read, for example one granted pg_read_all_data.
